What You'll Need:

What You'll Do:

• Fit and educate patients on orthopedic devices and DME per provider orders, ensuring proper sizing, comfort, and understanding of usage, care, and expected outcomes.
• Apply and remove casts and splints as directed by providers, while maintaining cast room readiness and ensuring adequate inventory of supplies.

• Leverage Epic and third-party DME software (e.g., MotionMD) to manage daily operations, verify benefits, initiate pre-authorizations, and collect patient financial responsibilities.

• Document all services and measurements, including payer-required forms (e.g., ABNs, FRNs), to ensure compliance with billing and insurance regulations.

• Support inventory management and audit activities in collaboration with the DME Coordinator, and promptly report equipment issues or shortages to leadership.

• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with patients, providers, clinical staff, vendors, and suppliers to ensure seamless and high-quality care delivery.

• Ensure timely and accurate documentation in alignment with clinical, operational, and regulatory standards.

• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of orthopedic and DME services, adapting to evolving patient and departmental needs.

• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

• The role requires knowledge of orthopedic bracing, DME billing, and safety standards, along with proficiency in fitting devices and using Epic and third-party software.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to follow standardized practices and maintain accurate documentation are essential.
• Physical capability to perform hands-on tasks and travel between locations is expected.
• Collaboration with clinical teams, providers, and vendors is key to delivering seamless care.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• The DME Technician role requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks involving standing, bending, reaching, and fine motor skills.
• The technician may need to travel between multiple locations to support orthopedic and DME services.
• Work is typically performed in clinical environments such as cast rooms and patient care areas, with adherence to infection control and safety standards.
• Reliable transportation is required as this role may require traveling to multiple locations.

The Durable Medical Equipment Technician plays a critical role in delivering high-quality orthopedic support by fitting and educating patients on durable medical equipment (DME), performing casting and splinting procedures, and ensuring accurate documentation and billing. This role ensures that all prescribed orthopedic devices are properly applied, tracked, and billed in compliance with payer requirements, while also supporting operational efficiency through inventory and audit coordination.
