OVERNIGHT EMERGENCY VETERINARIAN
A RARE OPPORTUNITY IN PRIVATELY OWNED, CLINICIAN-LED PRACTICE
There are plenty of emergency positions out there. This one is different. At Western Veterinary Center, we're not looking for someone to simply cover the overnight hours. We're inviting a skilled, steady emergency veterinarian to become a core part of a 24-hour hospital where their voice genuinely matters, their judgment is trusted, and their patients receive the very best care this profession has to offer, at 3 a.m. just as much as at 3 p.m.
WVC is privately owned and clinician-led. Every decision made here is made by actively practicing DVMs who understand what it means to be in the trenches alongside you, including what overnight emergency medicine actually asks of a person. There is no corporate layer, no distant board, no one-size-fits-all policy handed down from above. You will work hand-in-hand with the people who own this practice, people who share your commitment to medicine, your respect for the human-animal bond, and your belief that emergency medicine can and should be practiced sustainably.
THE ROLE
As our overnight emergency veterinarian, you'll be the clinician patients and families count on when their worst night happens. You'll triage, stabilize, diagnose, and treat the full range of emergency presentations, from trauma, toxicities, and GDVs to respiratory distress, acute neurologic events, and critical medical cases. You'll manage hospitalized patients through the night and hand them off to the day team ready for their next step.
YOUR FUTURE COLLEAGUES
One of the most important things we can tell you about WVC is who you'll be working alongside. Our team is small enough to feel like family, and experienced enough to truly elevate your practice. Currently on staff:
- Two board-certified criticalists with deep ECC expertise, colleagues for case collaboration, ICU patient care, and continued growth in emergency and critical care medicine
- A surgeon, a natural partner for surgical emergencies
- A board-certified cardiologist providing in-house specialty consultation
- A board-certified nutritionist available for virtual consultations
- An active search for board-certified specialists in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Cardiology, building out a full specialty service your emergency cases can transfer into
This team doesn't operate in silos. Collaborative case discussions and cross-specialty problem solving are part of daily life at WVC. Overnight, you'll have the autonomy to run the floor with confidence, and you'll know there's a specialty hospital behind every decision you make.
THE HOSPITAL
Our 15,000 sq ft facility was purpose-built for emergency and specialty medicine. You will not be working around limitations; you will be working with the tools you actually need:
- In-house CT and full fluoroscopy capability
- MRI arriving on-site by end of year 2026
- Dedicated ultrasound and endoscopy suites
- 5 state-of-the-art surgical suites
- 12 treatment stations and 12 consult rooms
- Central O2, gas, and suction lines throughout
- Lecture hall for team education and case rounds
OUR PHILOSOPHY OF CARE
At WVC, we believe the client is part of the care team. Our clients aren't obstacles to good medicine; they are partners in it. Nobody walks into an emergency hospital in the middle of the night on a good day. Families arrive frightened, exhausted, and facing hard decisions, often about cost, prognosis, or saying goodbye. The emergency veterinarian who thrives here is someone who finds meaning in meeting people in those moments with clarity and compassion, and who understands that a client who feels truly heard is a client whose pet gets better outcomes.
Veterinary medicine is a team sport. The most skilled clinician in the world does their best work when they are surrounded by people they trust, supported by staff who are well-trained and motivated, and operating within a culture where no one is too proud to ask for help. That's the environment we've built, and it's the environment you'll help sustain.
