The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in advancing the HPB surgical program at LV Surgery Associates, PLLC. The ideal candidate should have an extensive background in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, innovative research, and medical education. A strong track record in leading collaborations research and publishing on optimizing surgical outcomes is highly desirable. Leadership in multi-center studies and contributions to global HPB surgical advancements will be valued in this role.
Clinical responsibilities will include office practice, hospital consultations, and a high volume of complex HPB surgical cases. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, patient-centered care, and a data-driven approach to improving surgical outcomes. Experience in mentoring surgical residents and medical students will be considered an asset in fostering the next generation of surgeons through teaching and research initiatives.
Core Responsibilities:
- Surgical Expertise: Performing complex operations like liver resections, pancreatic surgeries, bile duct reconstructions, and gallbladder removals.
- Diagnosis & Treatment Planning: Evaluating patients, interpreting imaging, and developing individualized plans for both benign (cysts, stones) and malignant (cancer) conditions.
- Multidisciplinary Care: Working closely with other specialists (oncology, radiology, Gl) in tumor boards and care teams for comprehensive patient management.
- Patient Management: Providing inpatient and outpatient care, including preoperative consultation and post-operative follow-up.
- Advanced Techniques: Utilizing minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery.
- Education & Research: Training residents and medical students, and participating in research to advance the field.

- Liver cancer (primary & metastatic)
- Bile duct cancer & strictures
- Gallbladder cancer & inflammation
- Pancreatic tumors & pancreatitis
- Benign liver lesions, cysts, & abscesses
Environment:
- Typically works within large hospital systems or specialized surgical centers.
- Requires strong collaboration with other departments.
Requirements
- Board Certified in General Surgery
- Fellowship-trained in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery (HPB)
- Eligible for Nevada Medical License
- Minimum of five (5) years of General Surgery experience, with demonstrated leadership in HPB surgery and program development
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster a culture of patient safety and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice, patient-centered care, and surgical education
- A passion for innovation in surgical techniques, clinical research, and performance improvement initiatives
- Proficiency in Spanish is preferred to better serve the diverse patient population
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Completion of a medical degree (MD or DO) followed by a 5-year general surgery residency.
- Specialized Training: Completion of a specialized fellowship in hepatobiliary or transplant surgery (often accredited by AHPBA or SSO).
- Certification: Board certification in general surgery is required; specialized subcertification may be preferred.
- Skills: Expertise in laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgical systems, advanced knowledge of imaging technology, and strong decision-making and leadership abilities.
