- PGY 2 Preliminary General Surgery position
Description
The Loyola University Medical Center General Surgery Residency training program is looking to fill a one-year PGY 2 preliminary resident position beginning on June 22, 2026. The Department of Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center is a multi-specialty surgical service. The department has eleven divisions including General Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Colon and Rectal Surgery, Intra-Abdominal Transplantation, GI/Minimally Invasive Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, Trauma/Surgical Critical Care/Burn Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dental Medicine, and Surgical Research. In collaboration with the Burn Shock Trauma Institute and the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center Oncology Research Institute, the department has developed active research programs in burn, shock and trauma injury, health services research, inflammation, oncology, and vascular biology. Research funding is derived from a variety of sources including the NIH.
Requirements
Qualified applicants will be a current PGY 1 surgery resident in good standing in an ACGME-accredited residency in either general surgery, integrated vascular surgery, or integrated cardiac surgery.
Our typical PGY2 schedule includes acute care surgery, transplant surgery, community and VA general surgery, vascular surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and surgical critical care rotations emphasizing an increased operative experience and. During this year, PGY 2 residents continue developing their clinical and operative skills that they developed in their first year to assist them in the transition to increased autonomy as a junior surgical resident.

All interested applicants should submit their current CV, medical school diploma and transcript, MSPE (Dean’s letter), USMLE transcript, ECFMG certificate (if applicable), updated Defined Category Case Log Report signed by Program Director, three current letters of recommendation to include one from current Program Director (should be sent as separate files from individual faculty or program coordinators), PGY1 ABSITE Score Report, ACLS/BLS and ATLS certificates (if completed), a list of previously completed rotations, FLS certification (if completed), Annual Competency-based Semiannual PGY 1 evaluations, all Surgery Milestones evaluations, any completed Entrustable Professional Activity evaluations, a personal statement, and a detailed explanation for any remediation or probation during residency training.
