Description
Horizon Health Network is seeking a Thoracic Surgeon to be a part of our new Regional Thoracic Surgery Program —a key component of our province-wide vision for surgical excellence grounded in national best practices. This position will be based at the Moncton Hospital in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.

This role will also involve close collaboration with colleagues at the Dr. GeorgesL.Dumont University Hospital Centre (Vitalité Health Network) to support coordinated provincial care. You’ll collaborate with a wide network including the New Brunswick Heart Centre, Trauma Services, and Medical and Radiation Oncology to deliver integrated, patient-centered care.
This new regional program will deliver care aligned with the Canadian Association of Thoracic Surgeons and Cancer Care Ontario’s Level 1 standards, including:
- Multidisciplinary, high-volume surgical practice focused on lung, esophageal, and mediastinal pathology
- Access to advanced diagnostics, interventional radiology, endoscopy, and comprehensive cancer services
- Integration with medical oncology, radiation oncology, trauma, and pulmonary medicine
- Emphasis on rapid access, central triage, and evidence-based perioperative care
- Technology & Infrastructure: A robotic surgery platform is already in place, with a Hybrid OR currently in development to further enhance the delivery of complex thoracic procedures.

Incentives & Remuneration
Remuneration for this position is based on a recently renewed, competitive New Brunswick Medicare Alternate Funding Plan for Thoracic Surgery. Base salary is $640,000 per annum with incremental increases upon renewal of the Medicare Master Service Agreement. There is an additional Mandated On-Call stipend of $272.50 per day. Medical education remuneration is based on set Dalhousie University rates. Hours of work are normally provided between 0800 and 1600 Monday to Friday.
Successful applicants may be eligible to receive the following:
- Urban recruitment incentive of $50,000.00 with a 2-year return of service.
- Moving expense reimbursement is also available.
Requirements
What you will do
The Physician will provide both inpatient and outpatient thoracic surgical care and share on-call duties with the Division. A typical schedule includes:
- Access to a modern MIS suite, da Vinci Xi robot, and Illumisite bronchoscopy platform.
- Collaborative care with cardiac surgery, ICU, respiratory, oncology, radiology, ENT, and plastics.
- Ongoing capital upgrades: new ICU, hybrid OR, endoscopy suite, and oncology clinic.
- Support from a full-time Thoracic Surgery Clinical Assistant.
- Office-based and ambulatory patient care, inpatient rounds, and hospital consults.
- Assigned OR time and 1-in-4 on-call coverage, including holidays and weekends.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration and adherence to evidence-based standards.
- Active participation in education, research, and continuous quality improvement.
- Commitment to Horizon Health Network’s mission, values, and AFP deliverables.
- Accurate documentation and coverage planning for absences.
Academic Affiliation: The Moncton Hospital is a teaching hospital and part of Horizon’s strategic plan to grow research and innovation. Members of the Division are required to be part of the medical education program partnering with Dalhousie University New Brunswick. Members are eligible for an academic appointment with Dalhousie University.
Who you are
- You possess a Medical Degree from a recognized medical school and postgraduate studies (residency) in the field of specialty.
- You must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick
- Proven experience in acute care settings.
- Ability to perform under pressure while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Commitment to ongoing education and research within the field of thoracic surgery.
- Given Moncton’s highly bilingual community and the close clinical collaboration with Vitalité Health Network and its patient population, proficiency in both English and French would be considered a strong asset.
