Island Health is welcoming applications for Pediatricians and Pediatric Subspecialists to join collaborative medical communities across Vancouver Island, BC. Opportunities are currently available in Nanaimo, Duncan (Cowichan Valley), Comox Valley, Port Alberni and Victoria, offering a range of practice environments from community pediatrics to regional subspecialty care.
Nanaimo
Join an established collegial pediatric team at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with opportunities to build a consulting community practice supported by funded on-call schedules. The hospital includes a dedicated pediatric ward, outpatient pediatric services, and a state-of-theart Level 2B NICU supporting infants requiring specialized neonatal care. Nanaimo also offers opportunities for academic involvement through UBC teaching programs
Cowichan Valley (Duncan)
Practice within a collaborative medical community at Cowichan District Hospital, serving a thriving and growing region. Physicians work alongside a broad network of family physicians and specialists while benefiting from an expanding healthcare system, including a new Cowichan District Hospital expected to open in 2027 with increased inpatient, operating room and critical care capacity.
Comox Valley
Located within one of Vancouver Island’s fastest-growing regions, the North Island Comox Valley Hospital offers opportunities to join a collaborative pediatric team serving both local and referral populations. Physicians benefit from teaching opportunities through University of British Columbia affiliations and access to a modern hospital environment.
Port Alberni
Provide pediatric care within a welcoming community hospital environment serving local residents and surrounding coastal and First Nations communities. West Coast General Hospital supports a broad regional population and offers physicians the opportunity to practice comprehensive pediatrics within a collegial medical environment with shared call models and rural incentives.
Victoria
Victoria General Hospital provides regional pediatric specialty services supporting communities across Vancouver Island. Opportunities include pediatric subspecialty practice within a collaborative tertiary care setting alongside pediatric specialty teams including NICU, PICU, cardiology, neurology, nephrology, oncology, allergy and immunology, surgery and respiratory
medicine.

Remuneration: Fee-for-Service, Medical-On-Call Availability Program
Education, Training and Experience
- Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Pediatrics, or eligible
- Subspecialty certification where applicable
- Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia
