Maimonides Medical Center, an American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma verified Level I Adult and Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, has an opening for a one year fellowship position in Surgical Critical Care beginning August 1st, 2026. Maimonides is a 650 bed tertiary referral hospital located in a densely populated multicultural neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY. The institution is widely recognized on a state and national level for exemplary clinical services across many medical and surgical disciplines. We have a long and rich history of medical education with over 500 residents and fellows annually. In Surgical Critical Care, we have a 13 bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit with over 1100 annual admissions and 12 bed Step Down Unit that cares for all surgical subspecialities, including acute care surgery, colorectal, surgical oncology, hepatobiliary, bariatric, neurosurgery, vascular, thoracic, orthopedics, urology, ENT, and OB/Gyn. The two units are administratively and physically connected such that it affords a trainee the opportunity to incorporate experience in patient triage and throughput in order to optimize resource utilization. Fellows will have the opportunity to work closely with a dedicated group of surgical intensivists neurocritical care intensivists, advanced practice providers, and skilled ancillary staff. Elective rotations are available with multiple other units and clinical service lines. Maimonides is also the only provider of ECMO in Brooklyn, which affords a fellow the unique opportunity to learn about this valuable clinical modality. Graduates of the program will be well prepared and comfortable working as surgical intensivists across many settings.
Requirements
Prospective trainees will have successfully completed a 5-year ACGME approved General Surgery program and be board eligible for general surgery.
